Training Programs by a Licensed Guide Outfitter

…it’s what makes the difference in the quality of the guide in the outfitting business. We have been training wilderness guides since 1990. People from all over the world, from all walks of life, have graduated from our programs and have gone on to fill the needs of the outfitting industry throughout the world.

Who can better teach you about the hunting business than the business that is already hunting year round? We are literally “in the business” of providing the hunt products for which we train our students Licensed Guide Outfitting.

The overall objective of these hunt training programs is to provide the basic working knowledge and practical skills required by a professional hunt guide. It includes many aspects of hunt guide outfitting such as horse handling, shoeing, packing, horse care, camp preparation, wilderness skills and operational procedures. The hunt programs prepare participants to become a hunt guide. They are also designed for individuals intent on starting their own hunt guide outfitting business.

This wilderness hunt guide training program includes all aspects of being a hunt guide. These include:

  • Animal caping for all types of mounts
  • Trophy scoring for all North American animals.
  • Wildlife habits, habitat, seasonal patterns, identification
  • Hunt styles, including spot and stalk, calling, driving, and baiting for each specie
  • Operational procedures
  • Year round and seasonal employment for hunt guides
  • Horse use, shoeing, packing, riding, horse care, mountain riding
  • Firearm safety and use with client
  • Back country living, safety, survival while hunting
  • Hunt guide leadership, hunt client staff relations
  • All government regulations
  • Bear, cougar safety
  • Running your own hunt guide outfitting business

The first half of the hunt guide trainingtakes place at our Ranch, where theoretical and practical hunt guide training is provided in a controlled environment. The last half of the hunt guide training is spent in the high alpine where you apply your newly learned skills to “the real thing”.

Our written Policy, Procedures and Systems are the backbone of our hunt operation. These standards are found only in progressive hunt businesses, and they are the foundation of our Guide Training Programs.

Our training philosophy is this: “it’s best to get trained by the best in the hunting business so that you won’t pick up bad habits, or take shortcuts, or learn the wrong approach that will forever limit your opportunities”.

We teach our Programs from a “hunt guides perspective”, and it is all hands-on. You will be shoeing your horse, not just watching your instructor. You will learn how to handle a horse by learning how to teach your guest to handle a horse. Our instructor-to-student ratio is high, and you are not paying to be part of a work crew!

We hold and renew an extensive and diverse number of licenses, leases and permits. We have diverse forms of tenures and licenses, and we pass on this extensive knowledge of the operating systems and government regulations to our graduates. Tenures are fundamental to our Guide Training Modules (ie. our Guide Outfitter License, Angling Guide License, Range License and Woodlot License).

We license our instructors, our hunt guides and those graduates that we hire with Assistant Hunt Guide Licenses. Only a licensed operator can do this, and we are both a Licensed Guide Outfitter and a Licensed Angling Guide.

Our Licensed Guide Training Instructors set top standards for the industry. They are quality mentors whose character, personal standards and knowledge you’ll want to emulate.

Our Apprenticeship Program, Log Book, Certificate and A/B/C/D Guide Levels are well recognized within the industry, and set the standards for our instructors, staff and graduates of our Hunt Guide Training Programs. Graduates use our Log Book to register all related training, experience, licenses and tickets as graduates work towards becoming professional hunt guides.

We are heavily involved with industry associations, both at the local and regional levels, that are setting policy and trends for the industry.

If you are interested in an active career as a Wilderness Hunt Guide, take the opportunity to get the best industry training and join one of our wilderness hunt guide training programs.
